The AI and the Law Symposium brought together legal professionals and experts at the Ohio Statehouse for a day of discussion and learning about artificial intelligence (AI) and its growing impact on the legal landscape. Attendees learned about the benefits and risks of integrating generative AI into their daily work and explored real use cases and their outcomes.
The day kicked off with a keynote from Jeremy Kahn, AI Editor, Fortune Magazine and Author of Mastering AI: A Survival Guide to Our Superpowered Future, where he shared insights into just how fast AI is progressing and what we can expect as the technology progresses. His presentation began with a deep fake to the surprise of the audience, demonstrating how far this technology has come already.
Kahn's presentation was followed by two panels, where panelists discussed everything from AI integration in law school curricula, to the intersection of AI with lawyers’ ethical duties and how to manage this technology in today’s law firms, to AI and cognitive diversity, the pros and cons of using AI as co-counsel, and how to tackle AI bias in the law.
This spring's symposium topic was selected by the Ohio State Bar Foundation's 2025 Fellows Class and chosen as a pressing topic in the legal field. As AI use grows every day, legal professionals must learn how and when to use this technology safely and appropriately to promote justice for all.
"The rise of artificial intelligence is affecting many professions, and we are not exempt from that," said OSBF President Jonathan Hollingsworth. "We’re practicing law at a truly fascinating time."
