Intern Spotlight: Reid Luffler

My name is Reid Luffler, and I'm a student at St. Charles Preparatory School. This summer I had the opportunity to intern at the Ohio State Bar Foundation. I'm excited to share a bit about my experience this summer.

Initially, I was interested in the Ohio State Bar Foundation because I planned to pursue a career in law. I also do a lot of volunteer/service work, and the OSBF seemed like a perfect opportunity to learn more about the intersection between the law and service.

My first project, to learn more about OSBF, helped me gain insight about the work of the Foundation. I read about the charity events that OSBF hosts such as their Bid for Justice. And I also learned about their Fellows program. I had the privilege of being able to attend the 2023 Fellows Induction Ceremony at the Ohio Supreme Court where I met many wonderful individuals including OSBF Trustee, Mag. Joseph Wenger who also attended St. Charles. It was great to meet many attorneys focused on making a positive impact on our community.

For a class project, I also had the honor of interviewing 2022 OSBF Fellow Brian Kelso. Brian and I discussed many different topics regarding the legal profession but the most impactful piece of advice that I took away from our conversation was that first impressions matter. He also shared insight on what I might expect if I go to law school.

This summer, I also had the opportunity to spend a week at Georgetown University and learn more about the law. While in D.C. I saw the Supreme Court, the House of Representatives, and the D.C. Superior Court. I especially enjoyed watching real-life court cases at the Superior Court. My week at Georgetown concluded with a mock trial, which was held in the courtrooms at the D.C. Superior Court.

While working at the OSBF I learned many things, but most importantly, I was able to grow my professional skills. This internship gave me the opportunity to focus on punctuality and professionalism. Working in the office taught me how to interact with other employees and it also taught me the importance of making good first impressions.

Overall, this experience was a fantastic experience and was very beneficial to my understanding of the legal profession, the nonprofit sector, and community service in the legal world.

Thank you to everyone at the Ohio State Bar Foundation!
